Companies IBM talent attraction partner Urtė Butrimavičiūtė shares his insights on IT market trends and opportunities for retrained employees: "We have excellent employees who started from internship or junior positions and continue to grow and move up the career ladder in our company."

What is the current situation of the IT market? What is the ratio of supply and demand for programmers? Has the market situation changed during the pandemic?

I think that the IT sector has not been affected by Covid-19 so much, there is still a shortage of qualified workers and senior position specialists in the market. Especially now, specialists occupying senior positions are not inclined to change their current jobs.

Is a university degree important when working as a programmer? Some big IT companies ask for a diploma, how is it valued in your company?

There is no such requirement at IBM.

Why did you agree to cooperate with Vilnius Coding School? What opportunities did you see?

Vilnius Coding School can offer excellent candidates for internship and junior positions.

Sometimes employers are hesitant about retraining specialists and their opportunities to join a new field, what is your attitude towards retraining people?

For IBM internship and junior positions, we hire most of the people who are retraining. Our attitude is very positive.

What positions can beginners in your company usually apply for?

Beginners can apply for an internship (and after 3-4 months the goal is to convert to a junior position) and junior positions.

How do you assess this project now that the person who has completed the training is already working in your company?

We have excellent employees who started from internship or junior positions and continue to grow and move up the career ladder in our company.
