Curious to learn more about Gabriele's successful path to a new career? Read on.

What is your professional path before training? What field did you work in and how many years did you work?
I worked as a barista for about two years during my studies, then I worked in customer service for a couple of months. At the university, I did an internship at the Vilnius University Zoological Museum, curating a virtual exhibition, and after graduating from the university, I additionally completed a 320-hour course in UX/UI design. Later, I was self-employed working in private WEB projects as a WEB/graphics designer for about two years.

How did the training go? What knowledge and skills have you acquired?
I decided to retrain because I didn't find myself during my studies. I have always been interested in art, drawing and graphic design, but I thought it would be just a hobby - but I was convinced that I wanted to work in IT. So, I discovered UX/UI and graphic design courses, which were basically a combination of IT and design, which was perfect for me.

How did you choose your chosen training program and why Vilnius Coding School?
I have previously completed UX/UI and graphic design courses at another school, but I wanted to learn more about the IT sphere as a whole, how certain positions work, what exactly people do, etc. I was also specifically interested in the topic of WEB programming, the final work of which was to create my own website using CSS/HTML and JavaScript - since I already had the basics of design, I was happy to be able to apply those basics in this course.

How did the training go? What knowledge and skills have you acquired?
The training was successful, I am especially grateful to the WEB programming lecturer J. Kunciene for her encouragement not to give up and her warm communication. It is a short course, but in a short time I learned a considerable amount of information related to various IT spheres such as testing, programming, data analytics. It was a lot of fun to share my experience from the position of a designer while presenting the last project of the course, I think that such creative tasks as creating pages show people's creativity.

How did the search for the company go? Was it difficult?
The job search was extremely difficult as the field of design is extremely competitive. The company found me on its own through the cv bank, then contacted me privately through Linkedin. Such things take time, so I think the most important step was to organize my portfolio and organize my CV on Linkedin.

What advice would you give to people who dream of changing careers, but do not dare for various reasons (thinking that it is too late to change something, that they will be too weak for IT companies, etc.)?
Most likely, only one word comes to mind - don't give up. Try to never compare yourself to others and instead think about what skill you could improve. Everything is learned with time, regardless of age, the most important thing is to set a goal and work towards it every day. Don't forget to encourage your colleagues and don't be ashamed of your achievements.
