Illness started her career as a manager in a cafe and after many years of professional challenges and changes, she chose to retrain in the IT field. Her experience and tenacity are just a few of the many aspects that have helped her achieve her goal. In this post, an alumnus of data analytics training will talk about her path to a new job position in the company UAB "Prototechnika" link.

What is your professional path before training? What field did you work in and how many years did you work?
I graduated from management, worked in a cafe for 12 years, then worked in a company for 12,5 years. In the beginning, she worked as an accountant, and for the last 6 years as a store manager.

Briefly tell us why you decided to retrain?
I needed changes, new challenges, I felt that I could and wanted to achieve something more than working in a store. By the way, after 12 years of working in a cafe, I also knew that I wanted a change, so that's when I started studying accounting. These were my first steps towards intellectual work.

How did you choose your chosen training program and why Vilnius Coding School?
I realized that I want "mental activity", that is, to earn with my head. I was looking for training related to analytics and programming on the Internet, and I just saw "Vilnius Coding School" on Facebook and, without thinking too much, I decided to start training here.

How did the training go? What knowledge and skills have you acquired?
The beginning was very difficult. It was very difficult for me to reorient myself psychologically, because before I was the one who knows everything, knows everything and helps others. Data analytics training wasn't the only course I took before starting my career in IT. It took 2,5 years from the time I left my job until I got a job. During that time, I studied in a shorter, 1-month course. duration of the "Vilnius Coding School" data analytics training program, I studied at KITM for 1 year, I was looking for self-testing training. Finally, I took the opportunity to repeat the data analytics course at Vilnius Coding School for free. My path was not short or easy. I tried to patiently accumulate the necessary knowledge in all schools.

How did the search for the company go? Was it difficult?
I didn't have that many job interviews in my career, because I got into the previous job positions quite simply. This time I had to participate in many job selections, there were some where I didn't fit, there were also some that didn't suit me.
My age seemed to be the most difficult thing for employers to do. I am currently 47 years old, so there were hints like "our team is quite young", "won't it be too difficult for you", etc. Of course, the fact that I had no experience in the IT field was also an obstacle. Also, there were such job interviews, where the employer said that they like my motivation and energy, but they don't have the opportunity to train me, they need a person to start working immediately. I remember it was quite difficult to move on, offer and talk after every unsuccessful job interview.

What advice would you give to people who dream of changing careers, but do not dare for various reasons (thinking that it is too late to change something, that they will be too weak for IT companies, etc.)?
If you don't try, you won't know, and you will always have time to regret it and it will never be too late 🙂
